PRCA 3330: Chapter 4

Chapter 4: Finding and Making News

This chapter from Public Relations Writing and Media Techniques, 6th ed. by Dennis Wilcox taught me the basic news values I need to know to the a publicist(this is what I want to do as a career).  The values are: timeliness, prominence, proximity, significance, unusualness, human interest, conflict, and newness.  These are important to know because in order to create a successfully publicized news story it has to adhere to the 8 basic news values.  As a publicist, the last thing you want to happen is to promote a campaign that ends up flopping.  Audience appeal in my opinion is the main goal and should be the main focus when using the 8 values.
